Ohio Valley Indoor Rowing Championships held at Marietta College
Mike Ross wins "Hammer Award" in men's collegiate division

Feb. 11, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio – The 12th annual Ohio Valley Indoor Rowing Championships were held Saturday (Feb. 11) on the campus of Marietta College.

Over 65 athletes, representing high school, college and master divisions, crowded the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center for the event, which was rowed on ergometers and uses a sophisticated computer timing system.

Marietta College senior Mike Ross (Fairport) was awarded the "Hammer Award" for having the fastest time out of all the men's collegiate races. Ross, who competed in the College Men's Open, finished the 2,000m race in 6:13.1.

Another "Hammer Award" was awarded to Denison's Christiana Glenn, after she finished the College Women's Novice race in 7:28.2.

Similar awards were also given to the top high school performers in each gender. Danielle Stephanik (7:33.4) and Gustav Lindamood (6:55.8), both from Marietta High School, took the honors.

The OVIRC's allowed Marietta College athletes to get a good glimpse of how their off season workouts have influenced their racing times. Both the men and women's teams will return to practice in preparation for their upcoming spring break trips to Palm Bay, Florida, in early March.
