Pioneer Navy ready for 51st annual Marietta vs. Purdue Challenge Cup
Mar. 24, 2006
MARIETTA, Florida — The Marietta College women's rowing team is anxiously looking forward to its race Saturday (Mar. 25), as the Boilermakers visit the Muskingum River for the 51st annual Marietta vs. Purdue Challenge Cup.
The Pioneers, under the direction of head coach Karen Glowacki, will be in action for the second time this season. It will be the first chance, however, for the home crowd to see the 2006 squad.
"The ladies have worked hard and made some good progress this week," Glowacki said. "Purdue is always ready to bring it on race day, so we're going to have our work cut out for us. We are up for the challenge. The ladies are ready to tear off some solid race pieces, and we are really looking forward to racing in front of a home crowd this weekend."
Marietta and Purdue will race Varsity Fours and Varsity Eights down the Muskingum on Saturday.
The Pioneers's Varsity Eight is looking to avenge an 11-second loss to the Boilermakers in Indianapolis (Ind.) a year ago.
Action, which also includes the men's races, is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will continue until 2:30 p.m. Complete results will be available Saturday evening.
