MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's rowing team hosted Division I Duquesne (Pa.) for the 12th annual Marietta Invitational Saturday (Apr. 1) on the waters of the Muskingum River.

The event, which only included the Dukes' women's program this year, was comprised of a Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Freshmen/Novice Eight race.

Marietta's only victory came in the Varsity Eight, when it defeated Duquesne's Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity Eight shells. The Pioneers finished the 2,000m course in 6:32.1. The Dukes' V8 boat crossed the line in second place (6:47.0), while its 2nd V8 finished third in 7:16.0.

The Pioneers' Varsity Four finished second behind the Dukes' V4 and Novice 4 shells. Duquesne's V4 finished in 7:12.0 and its N4 in 7:19,0, while Marietta finished in 7:28.0.

Duquesne pulled out a victory in the Freshmen/Novice Eight race, the most closely contested event of the day. The Dukes finished in 6:51.0 a few seats ahead of the Pioneers, who completed the course in 6:51.5.

Marietta will return to racing Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 8-9) when it competes at the Knecht Cup in Cherry HIll, N.J.
