Marietta women voted No. 15 in Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll
Pioneers racing at Knecht Cup this weekend

Apr. 5, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's rowing program, fresh off a victory against Duquesne at last week's MC Invitational, climbed into the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll for the first time this season. The Pioneers, who received votes but were not ranked in the initial poll of the spring, were tabbed No. 15 in the second poll of the season, which was released Wednesday (Apr. 15) afternoon.

Trinity remained in the top spot this week, while No. 2 Ithaca and No. 3 Williams swapped places in the most recent poll.

Marietta is gearing up to race Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 8-9) at the Knecht Cup in Cherry HIll, N.J.

The Pioneers have two boats in the Division III competition, a Varsity Four and a Varsity Eight. In 2005, the V8 placed second behind Washington (Mo.), who enters the race as the No. 14 team in the nation this season.

"This regatta features top Division III programs," Head Coach Karen Glowacki said. "Our results were good last year (2nd in V8, 3rd in 2V8) and we're hoping to improve upon them. The ladies have had a very good week of practice and both boats are rowing well and continuing to gain speed."

The V8 lineup remains the same as it has been for the last few weeks. It sits from bow Anjouli Dapice, Meg Foraker, Krista Tkacz, Amanda Chuderewicz, Kim Becker, Laurel Lindamood, Sotiria Anagnostu, stroke Lindsey Letterle and coxswain Shauna Payne. The Pioneers are slated to race Johns Hopkins, Mary Washington, Rutgers-Camden and the College of New Jersey in their opening heat Saturday (10:09 a.m.), with the finals scheduled for Sunday at 12:10 p.m.

"I'm pleased that the V8 has been seeded third," Glowacki added. "The ladies are fired up and believe that their abilities have been taken lightly. They are going into the race feeling like they have something to prove and are ready to make a statement."

This week's V4 lineup will feature stroke Meredith Hay, Kristin Rediger, Sarah Henry, Caroline McNulty and cox Saira Khan. This boat will go head-to-head with Mary Washington, N.Y. Maritime, Susquehanna and Washington College at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday. The finals will be run Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
