MARIETTA, Ohio — Following a week’s absence, the Marietta College women’s rowing team returned to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll, which was released Wednesday (Apr. 26) afternoon.
The Pioneers, whose last race was on April 9 at the Knecht Cup, will return to racing Saturday (Apr. 29) when they compete at the Southern Collegiate League Sprints (ACLS) Regatta in York County, Pa.
Marietta will send two boats — a Varsity Eight and a Varsity Four — to the ACLS Regatta. A year ago, the Varsity Eight took third behind Ithaca (N.Y.) and Washington (Mo.).
“The ladies are ready to race after two weekends away from competition,” said Head Coach Karen Glowacki. “We used the time to refocus on some technical issues and both boats have benefited from the additional work. We also did some more seat racing and the ladies really fought hard to gain or retain seats in the V8. I'm really excited to watch the ladies unveil their "new stuff" this weekend.”
The Pioneers Varsity Eight for the ACLS will include coxswain Shauna Payne, stroke Lindsay Letterle, Amanda Chuderewicz, Laurel Lindamood, Sotiria Anagnostou, Meg Foraker, Kim Becker, Meredith Hay and bow Anjouli Dapice.
Marietta’s Varsity is expected to compete against No. 3 Ithaca, No. 14 Washington, No. 21 Mary Washington (Va.), Bryn Mawr (Pa.), North Park (Ill.), RIT (N.Y.), Rutgers (N.J.), Chicago (Ill.) and Johns Hopkins (Md.).
“Ithaca is always tough and the top spot in the regional rankings will be on the line against Washington and Mary Washington,” Glowacki added. “I expect a great day of racing all around.”
The Varsity Four, which will consist of coxswain Saira Khan, stroke Brittany Durand, Krista Tkacz, Sarah Henry and bow Caroline McNulty, is scheduled to row against Washington, Rutgers, Johns Hopkins, North Park and SUNY Maritime.
A complete recap of Saturday’ action, which includes opening heats as well as finals in the Varsity Eight Competition, will be available once results are posted. |
