Weather takes its toll on field at ECAC Invitational
Marietta competes at its first ECAC Invitational

May 14, 2006
WORCESTER, Mass. — The Marietta College women’s rowing team traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, for 14th annual Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Rowing Championships Saturday and Sunday (May 13-14). The event, hosted by the Quinsigamond Rowing Association (QRA), featured the top crews in the eastern part of the United States. Weather played a major factor in the regatta, as teams had to endure multiple rain delays and even the cancellation of some events on Sunday afternoon.

Marietta, who was making its first trip to the ECAC event, raced a Varsity Eight and Varsity Four.

The Varsity Eight, which included coxswain Shauna Payne (Huron), stroke Lindsay Letterle (Glenshaw, Pa.), Amanda Chuderewicz (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area), Laurel Lindamood (Marietta), Sotiria Anagnostou (Mishauvaka, Ind./Culver Academy), Meg Foraker (New Lexington/Culver Academy), Kim Becker (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.), Meredith Hay (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) and bow Anjouli Dapice (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic), faced some stiff competition this weekend. The Pioneers opened the competition on Saturday with a sixth-place finish in its heat (7:14.67). Marietta then moved into Sunday's Semi-Final Four where it also took sixth place (7:20.84). The Pioneers were scheduled to race in the Fourth Level Final, but rain forced that race to be cancelled.

The Pioneer’s Varsity Four, which consisted of coxswain Saira Khan (Galloway Twp., N.J./Absegami), stroke Brittany Durand (Danielson, Conn./Pomfret), Krista Tkacz (Egg Harbor Twp./N.J.), Sarah Henry (Lancaster/Fairfield Union) and bow Caroline McNulty (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary), took fifth in its first race (8:42.09) Sunday morning. In the Petite Final later that day, Marietta finished third (8:34.54).

"Both the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four rowed courageously this weekend against not only the weather but a strong field," said Head Coach Karen Glowacki. "Our experience here will help us in the future."
