Marietta takes fourth at Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championship
Bratton and Chuderewicz named All-MARC honorees

LEWISBERY, Pa. — The Marietta College women's crew traveled to Gifford Pinchot State Park on Saturday (April 25) for the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship. The Pioneers came away with a fourth place finish in the featured Varsity 8+ event, while also taking runner-up in the Varsity 2+.

Freshman stroke Kelli Barnette (Parkersburg, W.Va./South), freshman Elizabeth Bratton (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Basil Academy), senior Amanda Chuderewicz (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area), junior Caitlin Piotrowski (Dublin/Dublin Jerome), sophomore Katherine Thomas (Cheswick, Pa./Fox Chapel Area), sophomore Megan Stuhlfauth (Hainesport, N.J./Merion Mercy Academy), senior Krista Tkacz (Egg Harbor Twp, N.J.), sophomore bow Miki Abitante (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and junior coxswain Lauren Talasnik (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) placed second in its morning heat after finishing in 7:27.6. Mary Washington (Va.) finished ahead of Marietta with a time of 7:21.5, while North Park also advanced to the afternoon's Grand Final after crossing the line in 7:35.7.

Washington (Md.) led from wire-to-wire to win the Grand Final. Mary Washington placed runner-up, while Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) beat Marietta to the line to finish third. The Pioneers, who took third a year ago, came in fourth.

Marietta also competed in the Varsity 2+. Sophomore stroke Brooke Exley (Phoenixville, Pa.) and freshman bow Jessica Amato (Shelby) finished second to Rutgers-Camden (N.J.) in the race.

Following Saturday's racing, the 2009 All-Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference recipients were announced; Chuderewicz and Bratton represented Marietta among the 18 women chosen.

The Pioneers now turn their attention to the year-end Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, which will take place May 9-10 in Camden, N.J.
