Women's soccer defeats Agnes Scott (GA) 2-0 for first victory of 2004 season

MARIETTA, Ohio - Head
coach Pat Holguin's women's soccer team picked up
their first win of the 2004, a 2-0 shutout, against Agnes Scott (GA)
this evening (Sept. 4) under the lights at Don Drumm Stadium.
The Pioneers (1-1)
defense played well for 90 minutes to get their first shutout of the
year. They allowed only two shots, both saved by junior goalkeeper
Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario).
Freshman Marianne
Siders (Belle, WV/Riverside) scored an unassisted goal in the
44th minute to give MC a 1-0 lead at the half.
Fellow freshman
Vanessa Nicholls (Cornwall, ONT) added a goal in he 62nd
minute to account for the rest of the scoring. Nicholls was assisted
by junior Amy Lehosit (Pickerington), who now has
four points in two games this season.
Rachel Dooley
made nine saves for Agnes Scott (0-1) in the loss.
Marietta will return to
action Wednesday (Sept. 8) when they travel to Oberlin for a 4:30 p.m.
game.
Also today at the MC
Classic, SUNY-Brockport defeated Carthage (WI) 2-1 in women's action
and Wooster's men's team knocked off Carthage 2-1 in overtime.
The Marietta men's team
will take the field tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Wooster. SUNY-Brockport
will battle Agnes Scott at 12 p.m. Both games are at Don Drumm
Stadium.
