Cardwell's goal in final minute leads MC to 1-0 victory over Oberlin

Sept. 8, 2004
Twinsburg, OH- OBERLIN, Ohio - On a dreary day in northeast Ohio, the Marietta College women's soccer team found a reason to celebrate, as freshman Colby Cardwell (Anchorage, AK/Robert Service) scored a goal in the final minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 win over Oberlin today (Sept. 8).

The Pioneers (2-1) kept the Yeowomen's (1-2) defense busy for 90 minutes, as they fired 32 shots, but Oberlin's keeper continued to turn them away until Amy Lehosit (Pickerington) found Cardwell open as time winded down in regulation. Lehosit's assist brings her season point total to five. The goal was Cardwell's first and gives her three points on the year.

Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) faced just three shots in the victory and recorded her second straight shutout.

Marietta soccer will return to action this weekend when they participates in the inaugural Hoss's/Comfort Inn Lion Invitational Soccer Tournament, hosted by Penn State-Altoona. The Pioneer women will battle Juniata (PA) at 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 11), while the men will follow, also against Juniata, at 4 p.m.
