Women's soccer extends shutout streak to five; defeats Charleston 2-0

CHARLESTON, WV - The Marietta women's soccer team showed no signs of rust today (Sept. 21), as it had not played a game in nine days. The squad tacked on a fifth straight shutout victory with a 2-0 win over Charleston (WV).
After a scoreless first half, MC (5-1) got on the board with 17:27 to go and added another 10 minutes later. Freshman Kylee Swaney (Marietta/Warren) scored both goals, bringing her season total to five and her point total to 13 through six games this fall.
Colby Cardwell (Anchorage, AK/Robert Service) and Katherine Gessner (Massillon/Washington) each picked up assists in the win.
Goalkeeper Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) collected seven saves in 90 minutes. Marietta out shot Charleston 17-to-7 in the victory.
Marietta will look to keep its streak alive when they host Washington & Jefferson (PA) Thursday at 4 p.m. The site of the game has yet to be determined, but it will be in the Marietta area. Stay tuned for an update on the location.
