Heidelberg defeats Marietta 2-1

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Marietta College women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 loss to Heidelberg Saturday (Oct. 9) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up.

The Pioneers (8-4, 1-2 OAC) were coming off one of the biggest wins in recent years, a 1-0 victory over Wilmington Tuesday, but could not carry the momentum in the contest with the Student Princes (3-8-1, 1-2 OAC).

After a scoreless first half, Heidelberg took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute behind a goal from Kasey Hill. The goal, her fifth of the year came on a header of a pass from Tricia Kotesovec.

Marietta tied the score five minutes later when freshman Allison Knowles (Wakeman) scored an unassisted goal, her second of the year.

The Student Princes got the game-winning goal with 12 minutes to go in the game, when Lindsay Wiltshire sent a rebounded shot past Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario).

Blahnik finished with six saves, while her counterpart Kelly Mueller made 22. Marietta out shot Heidelberg 34-9 in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Oct. 13) when they host Muskingum at 7 p.m. at Don Drumm Stadium.
