Gessner's scores game-winner as Pioneers blank Muskies 1-0

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Pioneer women's soccer team improved to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 1-0 victory over Muskingum Wednesday night (Oct. 13) at Don Drumm Stadium.

Marietta senior forward Katherine Gessner (Massillon/Washington) scored the lone goal of the night in the sixth minute. The goal was her first of the year and assisted by Marianne Siders (Belle, WV/Riverside).

Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) faced six shots and collected two saves in route to her ninth shutout of the year.

The Pioneers totaled 14 shots in the game and Muskingum's goalkeeper Lee Ann Quinn made six saves in the loss.

Marietta will look for its next win Saturday when it hosts John Carroll in part one of a Senior Day doubleheader. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
