Lady Pioneer soccer ties win record and stays alive in playoff race with 2-0 victory over Raiders

Oct. 27, 2004
ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Marietta College women's soccer team has the opportunity to reach new heights again this season, after its 2-0 victory over Mount Union Wednesday (Oct. 27) in Alliance. The Pioneers (12-5, 5-3 OAC) picked up a school-record-tying 12th win of the season and remain in the hunt for one of the four OAC Tournament bids following the win over the Raiders (4-11-1, 4-3-1 OAC).

After a scoreless first half that included just three shots, Marietta quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead when junior Amy Lehosit (Pickerington) scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute. The goal was the 20th of her career.

Senior Katherine Gessner (Massillon/Washington) added the final goal for MC, her second of the season, in the 73rd minute. The goal was the 14th of her career.

Junior goalkeeper Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) faced three shots and made two saves in route to her school-record 11th shutout of the season. She has now collected 253 career saves, 20 career shutouts and has a career goals against average of 0.89.

Marietta will close out the regular season at home Saturday (Oct. 30) when they host Capital at 1:30 p.m. at Don Drumm Stadium. The Pioneers will need a win against the Crusaders and some help on Saturday to earn a bid to the OAC Tournament for the second consecutive season.
