Women's soccer held out of playoffs following 2-0 loss to Capital

MARIETTA, Ohio - The Marietta College women's soccer team's bid for a second--straight OAC Tournament bid was denied by Capital this afternoon (Oct. 30), as the Crusaders wrapped up the OAC regular season title with a 2-0 victory over the Pioneers.

Marietta (12-6, 5-4 OAC) had its opportunities, but could not take advantage this afternoon. Capital (8-10-1, 7-1-1 OAC) broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute when Kara Martin snuck one by Marietta's Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario). Leah Maholm added the final goal with 14 minutes to go in the game.

Blahnik faced 14 shots and made nine saves, while her counterpart Courtney Allan faced 21 shots and had 10 saves in the win.

The loss ends the season for Marietta. The ladies tied the school record for wins, which was 12 set last season. Amy Lehosit (Pickerington) led the Pioneers with six goals and seven assists, while freshman Kylee Swaney (Marietta/Warren) finished with five goals and three assists on the season.
