Blahnik awarded Academic All-OAC honors

Gessner and Knowlton given Honorable Mention

TWINSBURG, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its 2004 women’s soccer Academic All-OAC winners this morning (Nov. 17). Junior Bethany Blahnik, (Mansfield/Ontario) was named Academic All-OAC, while senior Katherine Gessner (Massillon/Washington) and Emilee Knowlton (Marietta) received Honorable Mention honors.

Blahnik, an allied health major with a 3.75 GPA, picked up Academic All-OAC, after receiving Honorable Mention as a sophomore a year ago. She was also given All-OAC Honorable Mention honors in 2004, Blahnik played in all 18 games, collecting 98 saves and posting 11 shutouts in 1,603 minutes in the goal for the Pioneers. The goalkeeper finished the season leading the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 0.78 goals against average, a save percentage of 0.875 and in shutouts. Her 11 shutouts is a Marietta College single-season record. Blahnik also received Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honors for her efforts in the classroom this season.

Gessner, a senior marketing major, carries a 3.63 GPA. She was awarded Academic All-OAC honors as a junior in 2003. Gessner played in all 18 game this fall, scoring two goals and collecting one assist.

Knowlton is a junior allied health major with a 3.75 GPA. In addition to her academic honor, Knowlton was selected All-OAC Honorable Mention in 2004.  She started 17 games and scored three goals on the year for the Pioneers, who finished fifth in the OAC with a school-record tying 12-6 overall record, 5-4 in the Conference.
