Blahnik named OAC Player of the Week

TWINSBURG, Ohio – Marietta College senior goalkeeper Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Week for the week of September 5-11.

Blahnik, who has not missed a minute of action in goal all season, tied the school record for career shutouts Saturday (Sept. 10) in Marietta’s 2-0 victory over Juniata (PA) at the Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State Altoona. The senior has now recorded 28 shutouts, tying the total of Jenny Fleischer, who tended goal from 1996-99.

The Mansfield native, who is 39-16-2 in her time at Marietta, is the school’s career leader in victories. Blahnik, who was named the MVP of the Lion Invitational this past weekend and to the MC Classic All-Tournament Team on the team’s opening weekend.

Through five contests, she has allowed just two goals, made 23 saves and leads the OAC with a 0.38 goals against average.

Blahnik and the Pioneers will return to action Wednesday (Sept. 14) when they welcome Oberlin to Marietta Field for a 4:30 p.m. showdown.
