Marietta loses regular season finale 3-0 to host Capital
Sept. 28, 2005
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marietta College women’s soccer team dropped its final game of the regular season Friday (Oct. 28) 3-0 to host Capital in what was a battle of the two second place teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
As a result of the loss, Marietta (14-3-2, 5-3-1 OAC) must now play the waiting game, as it needs help from some other OAC teams in order to earn a bid into next week’s OAC Tournament.
With the win, Capital improves to 12-7-1, 6-2-1 in the OAC and secures the second seed in the Tournament. The Crusaders will host the third seed Wednesday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. Otterbein has already clinched the top seed in the tournament and will host the other semifinal game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Crusaders got on the board in the 34th minute when Kara Martin scored her 11th goal of the year. Martin took a cross from Abby Skoda and beat senior Bethany Blahnik (Mansfield/Ontario) just inside the right post.
The score remained the same until the 60th minute when Whitney Reeves scored off a rebound and then added another goal in the 73rd minute when Tara McGovern also scored off a rebound.
Blahnik faced nine shots and finished with two saves in the loss. |
