Lady Pioneers fall 1-0 to SUNY-Brockport on final day of MC Soccer Classic
Freeman, Nicholls, Siders and Sorboro named to the All-Tournament Team

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to visiting SUNY-Brockport in the finals of the 2006 Marietta Soccer Classic Sunday (Sept. 3). The Pioneers had an opportunity in the final minute to tie the game when a corner kick was played into the box, but the header flew just over the crossbar and the Eagles were able to run out the remaning seconds to secure the victory.

Marietta (1-1) was out shot by SUNY-Brockport 12-7. The Eagles' goal came in the 22nd minute when Ashley Ewin scored on pass from Lyndsey Burnisky. Ewin's took the shot from just outside the 18' and it found the upper right corner of the goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Freeman (Bay Village) made five saves in the loss.

Following the match, four Pioneers were named to the All-Tournament Team. Freeman, junior Vanessa Nicholls (Cornwall, ONT, Canada), junior Marianne Siders (Belle, W.Va./Riverside) and senior Jill Sorboro (Cuyahoga Falls) were all honored for their play on opening weekend.

In other action Sunday, Juniata defeated Mount Union, 2-0, behind a pair of first half goals.
