Lady Pioneers capture 1-0 victory over visiting Yellow Jackets
Header by Williams gives Marietta win against Baldwin-Wallace
Oct. 14, 2006
MARIETTA, Ohio — Junior Marianne Siders (Belle, W.Va./Riverside) found sophomore teammate Allie Williams (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) open in the box on a throw-in and Williams converted the header to lead Marietta College's women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon.
With the win, the Pioneers improved to 6-4-5 overall and 2-1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets fall to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
Siders, using her SID-favorite throw-in technique that involves a flip before the throw, found the head of Williams, who was open inside the box. Williams placed the shot just inside the right post for her second goal of the year.
Baldwin-Wallace out shot Marietta 12-7 in the game but could not get anything past the Pioneers' defense and keeper Jenna Freeman (Bay Village) Freeman finished with 12 saves in the shut out victory, her sixth of the year. Michelle Neff had four saves in the loss.
Marietta will continue OAC play Tuesday (Oct. 17), when Capital comes to Marietta Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
