MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat by the hand of visiting Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon at Marietta Field.
The loss drops the Lady Pioneers' record to 7-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets improved to 10-4-1, 4-0-1 in the OAC.
Baldwin-Wallace took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Lindsey Clapacs scored off an assist from Jamie Saathoff. Saathoff sent a pass over the defense, drawing Marietta's keeper Helen Hetzel (Radnor/Buckeye Valley), away from the goal, setting the stage for Clapacs, who found an opening in the back left of the goal.
The Yellow Jackets added a second goal just 18 seconds into the second half. Vickie Dreiling sent a cross into the box that curved over Hetzel's head and into the top right corner of the goal to give Baldwin-Wallace a 2-0 lead.
Baldwin-Wallace out-shot Marietta 12-11 overall and 9-5 in shots on goal.
Hetzel had seven saves, while the Yellow Jackets' Michelle Neff made five.
Marietta is back in action Wednesday (Oct. 17) when it visits Capital University for a 4 p.m. OAC match-up. |
