Martinez named All-OAC second team in women’s soccer
Senior earned league recognition for fourth straight year

Nov. 12, 2008
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) office released its 2008 All-OAC Women’s Soccer Teams and Special Award Winners on Wednesday (Nov. 12) morning, and Marietta College senior forward Jessica Martinez (Strongsville/Magnificat) was named All-OAC second team.

It is the fourth straight year that Martinez received All-OAC honors; she earned All-OAC honorable mention in each of her first three seasons with the Pioneers. The captain became just the fourth four-time All-OAC performer in Marietta women’s soccer history. She joins Traci Hart ’92, Jenny Fleischer ’00 and Amy Lehosit ’06 in holding that distinction.

Martinez, a four-year starter, finished her career second on Marietta’s all-time list with 28 career goals and third in Pioneer history with 65 career points. In 2008, she paced the squad in points (18), goals (7) and assists (4).

In addition to her All-OAC honors, Martinez was recently named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is also expected to pick up Academic All-OAC honors for the third straight season later this month.

Head Coach Pat Holguin’s squad, which featured 22 freshmen, finished the year 5-10-3 overall and 3-3-3 in the OAC. The Pioneers tied for sixth in the OAC but missed an OAC Tournament berth because of a tiebreaker for the second straight season.
