John Carroll defeats Marietta 7-2 in women's tennis
Carraher remains undefeated with win at first singles

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team fell at home to visiting John Carroll University on Wednesday (April 2) afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center. The Blue Streaks won the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match 7-2.
Marietta (1-4, 0-3 OAC) trailed 2-0 after John Carroll (6-8, 2-2 OAC) won points at second and third doubles. The Pioneers won their first point with a 9-7 victory from the duo of senior Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson) and sophomore Lauren McKiernan (Parkersburg, W.Va./South), which improved to 3-1 in 2009.
The Blue Streaks then won the initial three points in singles action before Carraher knocked off her opponent at first singles. Carraher won 6-0, 6-2, improving her season record to 5-0 and her career mark to 34-4. John Carroll took the final two points to seal the 7-2 victory.
Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (April 8) afternoon when the Pioneers visit Muskingum College. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m. |
