April 29, 2009
ADA, Ohio — The eighth-seeded Marietta College women's tennis team had its season come end with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded Ohio Northern University in the Quarterfinals of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament on Wednesday (April 29) afternoon.
The Polar Bears improved to 18-5 and advanced to the OAC Semifinals, which will take place at Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Pioneers finished the year 2-11.
Ohio Northern, who defeated Marietta 8-1 during their regular season meeting on April 25, took control of the match after three wins in doubles action. The Polar Bears then sealed the match with victories at fifth and sixth singles. Action at first, second, third, and fourth singles went unfinished, as the match ended as soon as one team collected the necessary five points to advance.
Marietta's All-OAC senior standout Amanda Carraher (Hilliard/Hilliard Davidson), arguably the most prolific women's tennis player in school history, closed out her single's career with a record of 40-5. All 45 of her matches were played at first singles.
