Directing

outside play

In Directing 1 students learn how to analyze dramatic text for production, practice conceptualization skills, and coach actors in a laboratory setting towards the final performance of a scene from a modern play. Most of the focus in Directing 2 is on producing the One-Act Festival. Student directors engage in the full process of proposing, casting, rehearsing, and producing fully supported one-act plays with performances for the general public. Exceptional directing students are also offered the chance to direct a stand-alone, fully produced play as a part of The Theatre at Marietta College’s Studio Series after they have completed Directing 2 and served as Assistant Director on a mainstage production. Students who demonstrate outstanding directing skills at the Studio level are then considered for an opportunity to direct a fully funded Mainstage production.
