Foundations of Leadership

This course introduces students to the academic study of leadership, leadership thought in Western Civilization, the leadership tradition in the United States, and competing perspectives of leadership between individualism and communitarianism. Students consider and assess their existing concepts of leadership by exploring the tradition of commentary about the subject. Students are encouraged to improve upon their thinking about the ways leadership manifests itself in contemporary United States society. Strong emphasis is placed on students learning how to apply critical thinking and reasoning in studying leadership.
