Khorassani Presents Paper

On February 18, 2011, Dr. Jackie Khorassani was in Pittsburgh, PA, to present her paper, “Using News Analysis in an Inverted Classroom”, at the Teaching Economics: Instruction and Classroom Based Research conference. Dr. Khorassani describes her work: "The purpose of this paper is to describe how I use class time to engage students in various active learning exercises in my inverted Principles of Macroeconomic course. Specifically, I describe how I use economic news to make economics more relevant, interesting, and exciting to students. Furthermore, my approach enhances students’ economic literacy and facilitates their ability to think critically as they build their own knowledge set. The cost of this approach is its lean content and (at least initially) student resistance--a cost that I am happy to endure."
