Why does WebCT tell me that my browser is "unsupported?"

WebCT works properly only with selected web browsers. If you're getting this message, you're probably accessing WebCT with an older version of your web browser. Try using a more updated browser. For a complete list of supported browsers, click here

Backing up and downloading a course:

  1. From the Control Panel, choose Manage Course.
  2. From the Manage Course Page, choose Create Backup.
  3. Enter a brief description of the course in the page.
  4. Click the Create button.
  5. You will see the Backup Success screen. Click the Continue button.
  6. Now you will need to download the backup to your computer for safekeeping and/or transfer to another WebCT course. To do this, click the radio button next to the course you want to download, then click "Download."
  7. You will see a download screen from your web browser. (This example uses Firefox, but they are all similar.) Click the "save to disk" radio button.

 

 

click to expandHow can I restore the backup of my course?

Restoring a course from a backup:

  1. Upload the WebCT backup to the server. If you haven't already uploaded your backup, read How can I create a backup of my course? for detailed instructions.
  2. Click the Course Functions button on your myWebCT page.
  3. You will see the Course and Backup Listing page. Check the checkbox next to the backup you would like to restore.
  4. From the Options: Restore pane, click the Restore Backup radio button. that corresponds to your needs.
  5. If you want to keep the students in yoru class, click the Restore (keep students) radio button. If you want to delete all student information as the course is being restore (for example, if you are using the same WebCT course from one semester to the next, click the Restore (replace students) radio button.
  6. The file is now being restored. Be patient, as this process can take a long time if you have a lot of information in your class. This process takes a bit longer than the Backup function.
  7. You will see Course restore message.
  8. You will see the Success message if the course restore is successful. If not, you will see a message indicating that the restore was not successful. If this rare occurrence happens to you, contact Laura and she'll help you determine the problem.
  9. Now you can begin using WebCT with your students!

 

click to expandHow can my students see their grades?

This is a two-part process. First, you'll need to add the My Grades tool to your WebCT class. Next, you'll need to release the columns to the students' view.

To add the My Grades tool to your WebCT class:

  1. Click the Control Panel button.
  2. Click the Add Page or Tool hyperlink.
  3. Click the radio button labeled "My Grades."
  4. Click the Add button at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Type Check Your Grades in the Title textbox.
  6. Check the checkboxes next to "on the Course Menur" and "on an Organizer Page." Check the checkboxes next to "Link shows title" and" Links show icon."
  7. Check the "Default Icon" checkbox.
  8. Click the Add button.

To release the columns so that the students can see the contents of these columns:

  1. Click the Control Panel button.
  2. Click the Manage Course hyperlink.
  3. Click the Manage Students hyperlink.
  4. From the Options: Records drop-down list, choose Manage Columns.
  5. Click the Go button.
  6. Check the checkboxes above the columns containing the grades you would like the students to see.
  7. In the Actions: Options frame, choose Yes from the Release columns drop-down list.
  8. Click the Go button next to Release columns.
  9. The students may now view their grades.

What does WebCT stand for? WebCT stands for Web Course Tools.

Why is it called a radio button? It's called a radio button after the old buttons on car radios. When you push one button in, the other button is pushed out. If you look at radio buttons on your computer, you'll find that they have the same behavior.
