Mission Statement
Our mission as the Dean of Students Office is shaped by the philosophy that learning occurs both within and beyond the classroom in the setting of Marietta College. We believe that the environments and communities in which students live play a significant role in the social and interpersonal growth required for success in today's rapidly changing world. This growth is an essential step in the liberal arts pursuit of development of the "whole person."
We seek to promote positive living communities that support Marietta College's academic experience and encourage the values of self-exploration, engagement, mutual respect and courtesy, communal responsibility, and camaraderie. These outcomes will be facilitated by provision of well-maintained and secure residential hall structures, trained professional and paraprofessional (RA) staff, purposeful interaction, meaningful programming, and opportunities for student involvement.
The goals set by the Dean of Students Office are in support of Marietta College's Mission Statement and 7 Core Values and help provide students the experiences necessary for success in all avenues of life upon graduation.
Diversity Statement
The Dean of Students Office at Marietta College is committed to creating an inclusive atmosphere that values the rich diversity of backgrounds, values, and opinions possessed by all members within our community and beyond. Representatives of the Dean of Students Office, both paraprofessional and professional, shall endeavor to foster an environment that cherishes individuality, promotes civility and mutual respect, and emphasizes the values of social justice and human dignity as befits a community of scholars.
Differences among the spectrums of age, ability, cultural background, ethnicity, gender affiliation, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic class, among others, contribute to the social fabric of our community and personal development of individuals within.
