The Marietta College Forensics (speech) team is coached by Dr. Mabry M. O’Donnell, Professor of Communication and Media Studies Hillyer Professor of Literature, Rhetoric, and Oratory and Dr. Tomeka Robinson, Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies

“This tournament was a great start to our year. Marietta College placed fourth overall in school sweepstakes behind three of the top programs in the country. This speaks highly of the talent of the Marietta squad,” stated Dr. Tomeka Robinson, Director of Debate.

President and team captain, Scott Burnham stated: “The Indy 500 was a terrific tournament that gave the Marietta team a lot of insight as to what events the other schools are preparing. The tourney also showed the other school’s that Marietta is preparing for a stellar season.”

Ryan Ellis, Vice President of the team said, “This tournament was really high caliber. It was a great jump start for the upcoming season.”

Ben Reese stated, “This tournament was a really good change to see how our events are coming along and test them against some really strong competition. It was a great way to start the season.”

Andrew Kasick stated, “As a novice, it was really challenging competition, but hopefully it will prepare me for the rest of the season.”

Valerie Price stated, “This tournament was a great start to our season. The competition we faced was tough, but it was helpful to see the variety of pieces and performances.”

“Congratulations to the five brave students who attended a tournament much earlier in the season than we have ever done before. Scott, Ben, Ryan, Andy, and Valerie initiated our successful forensics season for 2010-2011, and we are excited to see what the season holds for us,” stated Mabry O’Donnell, Director of Forensics.
