Summer Orientation

Favorite Marietta moment?

Doo Dah Day every year

Describe what life was like during your time at Marietta College.

I was always busy juggling class, studying and working but always found time to have fun and made a lot of great friendships along the way.

What impact did Marietta College have on your career?

There are many ways but the greatest impact was the one-on-one interaction you have with professors and even that of small classes that you wouldn't get at a large university that really prepared me to be able to engage with clients quite easily and successfully in my current career.

What does it mean to be a Pioneer?

To be adventurous and not afraid of taking chances

When did you know Marietta College was the right school for you?

After my very first visit to campus, I had a pretty good feeling Marietta College was where I would end up.

Favorite Marietta moment?

When I learned Marietta College was going to start a Sports Management major the spring before my senior year.

Describe what life was like during your time at Marietta College.

Life was challenging while attending MC. The professors pushed you to limits you didn't think you were capable of, but in the end it made you a more well-rounded and confident person. The friends I made along the way definitely added enjoyment to my college experience.

What impact did Marietta College have on your career?

Earning my degree from Marietta College opened up many doors upon graduation. I started a summer internship after graduation, and once the internship was completed I started looking for more permanent jobs. I had shadowed a speaker from the Sports Management Internship group my senior year, and it turned out he was looking to fill a position around the time my internship was completed.

What does it mean to be a Pioneer?

Being a Pioneer means distinguishing yourself in a crowd. There is a sense of pride you carry to be a part of The Long Blue Line, but you know the hard work and dedication needed to be successful in whatever venture you pursue.

When did you know Marietta College was the right school for you?

To be honest I didn't know until my sophomore year. I originally chose Marietta College for its small size and charm, which was nice. However, it wasn't until I became involved in Delta Tau Delta that I realized Marietta College was right for me, and where I was meant to be.

Favorite Marietta moment?

Coming back to Marietta a year after graduation to be married to my college sweetheart, AnaRosa Stender. It was wonderful to celebrate with so many of our friends that we had met while at Marietta College.

As far as being a student, this would be a toss-up between being an EXCEL leader (Leadership orientation program), Doo-Dah Days, and the power outage in Spring 2007. Since I was only involved in one power outage, I'll give that the nod. Growing up in Cleveland, it's a big plus to have a "snow day" with actual warm temperatures.

Describe what life was like during your time at Marietta College.

It wasn't that long ago, so I doubt college life has changed too much. However, looking back, it definitely seems like a blur. I had a challenging course load, was actively involved in several organizations, but still made sure that I enjoyed time with friends, which may have involved an occasional trip to the Town House. These were some of the busiest, yet most rewarding years of my life so far.

What impact did Marietta College have on your career?

Marietta College's liberal arts provided me with a strong foundation, both academically and personally. I graduated with the critical-thinking skills necessary to compete in the real world. Possibly even more important were the leadership skills that I acquired through the McDonough Leadership program and my leadership positions within Delta Tau Delta. I believe those leadership skills have allowed me to thrive in my career.

What does it mean to be a Pioneer?

There's definitely something unique about being on a campus with only 1,400 other students that most people would not understand. You create very personal bonds with not only classmates, but also with faculty members and administrators. But what makes Marietta College special is that you can just as easily create that bond with a past graduate or a current student, all because we spent four years at the same small campus in Marietta, Ohio.

When did you know Marietta College was the right school for you?

I made my decision to come to MC toward the end of my senior year of high school. Coach VanderWal had recruited me pretty hard for the past year and I ended up deciding to come to MC to play basketball.

Favorite Marietta moment?

It's hard to select only one. My top few are definitely games at home during our Sweet 16 season. There was no place like Fenton Court during that run. Another is senior week and the events leading up to graduation.

Describe what life was like during your time at Marietta College.

Life was busy but enjoyable. I always had a very hectic work load but it felt like I was at home surrounded by friends and family. There were always people around me who were willing to help.

What impact did Marietta College have on your career?

Marietta College made all of the difference in terms of my career. My progression as a student, professional, and human during these four years is amazing. My life is 100 percent better leaving than it was when I came in four years ago.

What does it mean to be a Pioneer?

A Pioneer is a trailblazer. A Pioneer is one who is courageous and willing to accept and take on any opportunity or obstacle in its path. A Pioneer is one who maintains long-term focus while enjoying the people and situations around them in the present. A Pioneer is one whose goals and aspirations are to make a difference and leave their world and communities a better place because of their presence.

When did you know Marietta College was the right school for you?

During the first class I attended at Marietta College, I was aware that it was the right school for me. Since Marietta is a small town, it proved to be the best place for studying. What's more, the REALLY small class capacity gave me a wonderful studying experience.

Favorite Marietta moment?

I enjoyed the moment I walked onto the campus during the fall season to enjoy the beautiful campus.

Describe what life was like during your time at Marietta College.

Busy, but enjoyable. The small class capacity and the ratio between the students and professors lead to a better study experience. Thus, the professors have more time to take care of each individual student, although this sometimes may make your life very busy.

What impact did Marietta College have on your career?

I am proud of the experience I had at Marietta College.

What does it mean to be a Pioneer?

Every Pioneer should be proud of being Pioneer.
