Inviting Someone to Visit

Steps to consider when planning a visit:

  1. Secure an invitation letter from Marietta College ASAP (below)
  2. Once your visitors have a visa and flight, reserving a room at the Lafayette Hotel is the best option in walking distance (very important if you do not have a car). If you live on-campus, there are very strict rules about visitors staying in your room.
  3. Make arrangements for you or a friend to pickup your guest at the airport pickup.

Note: CPS is not able to transport non-students/scholars to or from the airport.

Acquiring an Invitation Letter

Instructions for Marietta College students who want to invite a family member to the U.S.

If your family member would like to get a visa to visit you in the U.S., you need to get an invitation letter from Marietta College Provost, Dr. Rita Smith Kipp.

Contact Ms. Melody Miko, assistant to Dr. Kipp, by emailing her at melody.miko@marietta.edu, by calling her at (740) 376-4741, or by visiting her in the Provost's Office, 2nd floor of Irvine Hall.

You will need to provide the following information in a typed document:

  • Your full name (indicating family and given name)
  • The full name of the family member you are inviting (indicating family and given name)
  • The exact dates your visitor plans to arrive and depart the US (we understand that your visitor doesn’t have a visa or a flight booked yet, but give your best estimate)
  • Two to three sentences stating the purpose of the visit
  • The address where the invitation letter will be sent
  • Your family member’s date of birth and passport number (this is optional but helpful)
