Renee Steffen, VISTA Campus-Community Leader

I traveled to Cambodia through Defiance College's McMaster School for Advancing Humanity. During my travels, I was able to perform research related to Cambodia's thriving garment industry. Visiting three garment factories in a Third World country and talking to women who were fired from their jobs for no valid reason was an eye opening experience.

I also had the opportunity to be engaged in a service project to help build a fence for a blind woman. This whole experience influenced my career path tremendously as I realized I wanted to pursue a line of work where I was directly impacting people's lives.

For me, this line of work is the non-profit sector and I have found that my work as the AmeriCorps*VISTA Campus & Community Collaboration Leader here at Marietta College fulfills this need by reaching out to the over 20 non-profits in the community.
