Jean Scott, President
Before arriving at Marietta College Dr. Scott was the President of Bradford College in Haverhill, Mass. She is an historian by training. A graduate of the University of Richmond, President Scott earned a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in History at Harvard University. She began her career as assistant professor of history at Duke, then became the Director of Undergraduate Admission there.
She continued her work in admission and enrollment management, serving as Dean of Admission at Case Western Reserve University and the College of William and Mary. She gained experience in planning, affirmative action, academic administration and student affairs as Associate Provost at William and Mary, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services at SUNY Potsdam, and President of Bradford College.
She was appointed the 17th president of Marietta College on July 15, 2000. Her experience as an enrollment manager and her research on the admission process has been the focus of her publications and presentations. She has received the Duke Endowment Teaching Award (1979), and the Duke Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award (1978).
Rita Smith Kipp, Provost and Dean of the Faculty
Dr. Kipp joined Marietta College in July of 2007. She directs all functions related to undergraduate and graduate studies, the faculty, and the overall direction of the academic programs.
Prior to joining Marietta, Kipp was the Dean of the College at Sewanee: The University of the South from 2004-07. She is a nationally known scholar and author in the field of anthropology and the interdisciplinary field of Asian Studies.
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Kipp received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the faculty at Kenyon College from 1976 to 2004, advancing through the ranks to full professor and serving as chair of the faculty on two occasions before moving into the role of Associate Provost in 2003.
Along with sterling credentials as a teacher, scholar, and faculty leader, Kipp has experience in the recruitment, hiring, evaluation and development of faculty; curriculum and academic policy development; assessment; grant writing; construction planning (a science building); and the development of Kenyon's Asian Studies Program. She has published four books and numerous articles in her field.

Dan Bryant
Vice President for Administration and Finance
As the Vice President for Administration/Chief Financial Officer of Marietta College, Mr. Bryant has more than 32 years of experience in administration and business affairs. In 1972, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Juniata College. He received his Master of General Administration from the University of Maryland in 1984.
Mr. Bryant began his career at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. in various positions leading to Director of Business and Operations Services. From 1985 to 1989, he served as Business Manager and Treasurer at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo. A career move took Mr. Bryant to Southwestern University where he served as Vice President for Fiscal Affairs from 1989 to 1996.
In 1996, he returned to Washington, D.C. as Associate Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs at Georgetown University Law Center. In 2000, Bryant traveled abroad to the Higher College of Technology in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as the Director of Finance and Administration. He returned to the United States in 2001 and assumed his current role as Vice President for Administration and Finance at Marietta College.
Mr. Bryant and his wife, Evy, are private pilots and share ownership of a Piper Cherokee. They are also avid Pittsburgh Pirate fans.

Larry Hiser

Larry Hiser

Mr. Hiser joined Marietta College in March of 2008. He directs all functions related to intercollegiate athletics, oversees an NCAA Division III athletics program with 18 varsity sports (nine for both men and women) and the College’s recreation center.
Prior to joining Marietta, Mr. Hiser was the Director of Athletics and Head Baseball Coach at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., from 1995-2008. He played a critical role in transforming Endicott College from a two-year, women's college to a selective, co-educational four-year college. Under his watch the Gulls won 37 conference championships and participated in 47 NCAA or ECAC tournaments. Endicott also successfully launched new programs for equestrian, lacrosse and football, while improving the facilities that now rank among the finest in New England.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Ohio Northern University in 1987, where he was an all-conference shortstop on the Polar Bears baseball team. He went on to earn a Master of Science in Physical Education/Athletic Administration from Springfield College in Massachusetts, where he was a graduate assistant. He joined Endicott College in the fall of 1994 as the Gulls first baseball coach.
The Oregon, Ohio, native is married to the former Susan Chick. The couple has two children, Dan, 8, and Allison, 7.

Lori Lewis

Ms. Lewis joined Marietta College in July of 2005. She directs all functions related to alumni programs, prospect development, fund raising, college relations and the overall advancement of the institution's mission.
Prior to joining Marietta College, Lewis directed the strategic planning, and implementing and executing the management of the fund raising and alumni relations efforts for the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech - the state's leading engineering college, which consists of a dozen departments with some 300 faculty, 5,500 undergraduate majors and 2,000 graduate students.
Before accepting the position at Marietta College, Lewis raised more than $30 million of a $129 million campaign goal in the first 22 months of the silent phase. In addition she was appointed the lead Director of the fund-raising effort for an $85 million university initiative, the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science.
Lewis, who holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Ohio University, is pleased to return to southeastern Ohio after her three years in Blacksburg, VA. Lewis was the Assistant Dean of Development for the Russ College of Engineering & Technology at Ohio University. During her tenure at Russ College she played a role in negotiating the details of the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ Prize, one of the top two engineering prizes worldwide. The $5.8 million endowment supports a biennial $500,000 prized awarded by the National Academy of Engineering.
She also worked at Ohio University as the Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Affairs in the College of Health & Human services. Prior to her fund-raising career Lewis was a classroom teacher and administrator for Athens City and County School Districts and a part-time faculty member at Ohio University's College of Education.

David Rhodes

David Rhodes, Vice President of Enrollment Management
As the Vice President of Enrollment Management at Marietta College, Mr. Rhodes has nearly 25 years experience in enrollment and admission in higher education. He joined Marietta College in May 2006.
Most recently, Rhodes served as Vice President for Enrollment at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. His previous experience includes eight years as Vice President for Enrollment at Heidelberg College and 12 years in admission at Thiel College in Pennsylvania, the last three years of that time as Director of Admissions.
Rhodes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics from Thiel College and the Master of Business Administration from Heidelberg.
David and his wife, Bonnie, have three sons.

Lon Vickers

Dr. Vickers has 37 years of experience in student affairs and higher education, including the past six at Marietta College. He was promoted to Dean of Student Life in 2003 after four years as the Associate Dean of Student Life and Leadership. At Marietta, he is directly responsible for the direction and management of a comprehensive student affairs program serving 1,300 undergraduate students.
At Marietta, Dr. Vickers has participated on numerous committees, including the McDonough Leadership Program Faculty Advisory, Learning & Information Technology, and Campus Wellness. He has also been a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators since 1979.
Prior to joining Marietta College, Dr. Vickers was the Vice President for Student Affairs at Fitchburg State from 1982-90, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs from 1979-82 and 1990-92, and Dean of Students (1977-79) and Associate Dean (1976-77) at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Dr. Vickers has also worked as a Professor at Marietta, Fitchburg State, Northeastern University, West Virginia Wesleyan and Aims Community College.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Arts in psychology from Colorado State College and a Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Vickers and his wife, Marke, have a grown daughter, Quinn (BS, Otterbein College).
