Postcard from New Orleans

Dec. 15, 2005
Dear MC Friends:

We had our normal wake up at 7 a.m. and we arrived at Delgado around 9 a.m. We spent the day cleaning up offices and the hallways. Then for lunch we went back down the street to the church sponsored meals for workers.

Kate Gemmill collected a few dollars from the members of the group earlier so we were able to contribute to their efforts. At lunch we met some workers from Indiana who had made the trip to Louisiana in order to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

After lunch we went back to Delgado and the clean up crew presented us with shirts from the bookstore as a way of thanking us for our work.

For dinner we went to the famed House of Blues, where we got an exclusive tour of the music hall and the backstage area. The backstage area features a stairwell that has all the performers that have had sold out concerts at that venue and the number of times that it has happened.

Then it was off to Bourbon Street to relax and wind down from the stressful and tiring work of this past week. The group toured the French Quarter, Bourbon Street and the various tourist shops.

Friday is our final day of working at Delgado Community College. We are expecting to work about four hours and then return for some rest before we pile back into the vans for the 20-hour return trip to Marietta.
