Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Cristie Thomas joins Marietta College as the Civic Engagement Coordinator. In 2007, Thomas had the memorable opportunity to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu on her voyage around the world as a Semester at Sea student, visiting more than 14 countries.
Her work has been dedicated to social activism training and experiential education around issues of social justice, diversity, and discrimination. Thomas' strong ties to the community have been exhibited over the past three years as a ministry partner in multiple churches, developing community leadership while focusing on social justice initiatives.
Thomas is also the Founder/Director of a local nonprofit, (be)MUCH, dedicated to positive social change through education, activism, and community. Her current research examines Christian scripture and its ties to social justice.
Prior to coming to Marietta College, Thomas was an AmeriCorps VISTA* in St. Petersburg, Fla. She enjoys reading, crafting, music, and spending time with her husband.
