Laurel joined the Office of Civic Engagement in August of 2016 where she serves as an AmeriCorps member through the Ohio University-based COMCorps program. COMCorps’ mission is to increase community members’ access to evidence-based nutrition education, healthy fresh food, physical activity, and preventative and primary health care services. Laurel serves as the Live Healthy Kids Coordinator for COMCorps in Washington County. Her responsibilities include implementing the Live Healthy Kids nutrition education program in local schools, training and placing Marietta College students as food educators for the program, supporting nutrition-related service-learning activities at Marietta College, and supporting other local health, wellness and nutrition focused community initiatives in Marietta and Athens.
Laurel hopes to expand the Live Healthy Kids program to impact the parents of children who are or have been in the program, in order to empower families to cook and live healthy together.
