Career Center: Parents
Dear Parent:
Each year we write to the parents of Marietta College students to acquaint them with the Career Center and inform them of how we might assist their student. One of the main reasons for my contact with you is to assure you the Career Center is available to all students, freshmen through seniors, and how important career preparation is to the success of your child.
It is never too early for students to take the initiative in preparing themselves to be ready to seek their first professional position or apply to graduate/professional school. We regularly publicize our services to students, but I am writing to you with the thought that you might also want to know what we offer. Periodically you will be receiving a complimentary copy of Career Center News. This newsletter, published by the Career Center, highlights programs, resources, and activities within the office.
Our primary goal is to keep you informed of what we offer and how your student can take advantage of services.
- One-on-one career advising to develop career goals, assess interest and abilities for possible career applications. Additionally, each student is given a career advisor to enhance the advising process through the four-year Career Advisor Program.
- Assessment testing with any of the four free instruments to assist students in making informed career choices, (Holland Self-Directed Search, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and Focus II).
- E-mail notifications about jobs, internships, summer opportunities, and updates on career events through Monday Message and posted at www.collegecentral.com/marietta under Announcements.
- On campus recruiting from nationally recognized employers seeking full-time and intern candidates and graduate schools.
- Job fairs in several parts of the state and country to expose students to career opportunities nationwide.
- Use of Mentoring Network, a database of alumni searchable by location, employer or career field available at College Central.
- Use of the Career Center 24/7 through College Central Network, Inc. Search for internships, summer jobs and full/part-time positions online.
We hope the above list gives you an idea of the comprehensive service we provide to your student. If we can be of assistance to either you or your student, please do not hesitate to call. We are looking forward to working with your student in this important process, career planning.
Sincerely,
Hilles Hughes
