Orientation

New Student Orientation

Marietta College is committed to your success from the day you first arrive until your graduation. Starting with New Student Orientation, which is held the first week of your arrival, and continuing with your First Year Seminar and Lab, we will assist you in making a successful transition from high school to college.

Orientation is required for all entering freshmen and transfer students.

It also is the start of your College Life and Leadership Lab, a required 1 credit-hour academic class. The cost of the program is $250, which covers the program, socials, class trip, food, housing, materials and staffing. The fee will appear on your initial bill for the fall, which you will receive in July.

Shortly after Orientation, the student organization fair, called "Club MC," is held. Students from most campus organizations offer information about their organizations during this activity fair. You can "shop" for the clubs and groups you're interested in, and sign up!

Where do I report on the first day of Orientation? (Top)

All first year students living on campus should report to their assigned residence hall. For those first year students who will be commuting, a check-in table will be stationed in the Andrews Hall Lobby at 3pm on Move-In Day. All first year students will receive their Orientation packet either at move-in or the commuter check-in. Check-in for the Transfer Student Orientation will be at 12:30 pm in Andrews Hall Lobby.

I am an Athlete/Leadership student and will already by in campus prior to Move-In Day. Where should I pick up my Orientation packet? (Top)

All Orientation packets for first year students will be distributed at either their residence hall check-in from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (for those living on campus) or at the commuter student check-in at Andrews Hall at 3:00 pm. Athletes should arrange a time with their coaches during which they can pick up their information at these locations during the appropriate times.

Do I have to attend Orientation? (Top)

Orientation is required of all new incoming students. The Orientation Staff has worked hard to put together a schedule of events which will help in your transition to Marietta College both academically and socially.

Are the FYSE 101/102 classes during Orientation mandatory? (Top)

The FYSE 101 and FYSE 102 classes which are held during Orientation are treated just like any other class during the academic year. Students should know that failure to attend these sessions could affect their final grade in these classes.

What happens if I have problems with my room when I arrive? (Top)

If students have physical problems (i.e. light bulb, broken shelf), they should contact their Resident Advisor (RA) who will then submit a work request to Physical Plant.

Where can I buy my textbooks or other school supplies? (Top)
