Description

The Graduate Hall Director, working with the Director of Residence Life, is responsible for providing leadership and direction in coordinating a comprehensive residence life program in a co-educational freshmen residence hall.

The Graduate Hall Director articulates to students the philosophy and policies of the Department of Residence Life and Marietta College.

This is a full-time, 10 month, live-in position, reporting to the Director of Residence Life. Compensation includes:

  • a furnished one bedroom apartment for 12 months;
  • meal package (when dining hall is open);
  • $4,000 yearly stipend;
  • an opportunity to earn a master's degree in education.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • prior residence life, student activities and leadership experience preferred
  • ability to develop and implement residence hall programming and in-service training to staff
  • evidence of strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • commitment to human development, community development, leadership, multiculturalism, faculty and student programming
  • demonstrated skills in administrative tasks, including a basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications

 


 

Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Direct supervision of Head Resident Assistant and Resident Assistant
  • Hold regular supervision and staff meetings
  • Conduct performance evaluations of all staff

Programming

  • Develop and coordinate programs for the halls with input and assistance from staff, students and Hall Council.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive student development program, which reflects the departmental philosophy for residents.
  • Develop, plan and coordinate academic related services and programs in collaboration with faculty, staff and residence hall students
  • Assist with the planning and facilitating of educational workshops held within the residence halls.
  • Actively advise and promote Hall Council and their programming efforts.
  • Encourage student involvement and participation in programming, hall councils and other student organizations.

Administrative

  • Participate in rotating on-call duty with other Hall Directors.
  • Maintain ten office hours per week in the Office of Residence Life.
  • Oversee the administrative responsibilities of the halls including housing assignments, rebilling, maintenance reporting, damage billing, etc.
  • Communicate, monitor and enforce the policies and procedures that affect the residence hall operations.
  • Work with the Office of Campus Police in providing a safe and secure environment.
  • Assist with the administration of the judicial system and serve as a hearing officer.
  • Work with the Facilities Department in providing a living environment that is well maintained, in good repair and healthy.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to the Housing Officer responsible for room charges.
