O'Neill Senior Center

The O'Neill Senior Center provides a variety of activities and programs for seniors. The center coordinates life enrichment programs such as art classes, exercise programs, dancing, trips, games, health screenings, speakers, workshops, discussion groups, in addition to providing access to computers for seniors who wish to use them. The center also has an Adult Day Program where the center cares for seniors whose families or caretakers work during the day or need a break.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers can serve at basically any level. The center is in great need of a volunteer(s) to teach a basic computer class, such as how to turn on a computer, how to type using a keyboard, or how to access e-mail.

How can I volunteer?
- "Stream Team" Volunteer Stream Monitoring
- Friends of the Lower Muskingum seeks volunteers for the Stream Team, a volunteer stream monitoring project throughout the Lower Muskingum River Watershed.
- Must attend a training program through FLMR to learn quality assurance methods for assessing stream health.
- Commitment to monitoring your stream segment at least 2 times per year.
- Possible additional opportunities to assist with field data collection in the Olive Green and Meigs Creek Watersheds.

Christ United Methodist Church

Christ United Methodist Church, a downtown church with traditional and more contemporary services, is looking to create a closer connection with Marietta College students. We're within walking distance at 301 Wooster St.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are needed in a variety of areas.
- Help with youth ministry programs for mid-high and high-school grades
- Help youth create multimedia clips for worship
- Meet Sunday evenings starting in mid-September
- Meal is provided
- Help with After School program—first, second and third grade children who have been deemed "at risk." After School runs from mid-October to the end of April, on Wednesday afternoons, at the church.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization led by volunteers that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers can serve at basically any level. Interested people can also sign up for disaster relief training (background check required for disaster relief). Volunteers can serve in any one of these areas or take on multiple areas, depending on your interest. Below is an overview of work and/or skills needed by the Washington County chapter.

Washington County Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged, with the mortgage payment going back into the local affiliate to help continue to build houses. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.
How can I volunteer?
There will be a Habitat build on Cisler Drive in the Fall and another one in Little Hocking in the Spring
- Provide physical labor in all aspects of home building including nailing boards, building walls, installing fixtures, roofing, building decks, painting, clean up around the site, etc.
- Help out with Habitat's annual dinner and auction held on February 15, 2008
- Would include serving meals at the dinner, picking up auction items before the dinner, etc.

Washington County Harvest of Hope
The purpose of Washington County Harvest of Hope is to identify and utilize a variety of resources to generate more food to feed the hungry in Washington County. All volunteers need to be trained in procedures for harvesting foods and/or in proper food handling.
How can I volunteer?
- Transport donated items to agencies in need (ongoing)
- Harvest vegetables from farmers' fields
- Community food drives
Length of Time
Volunteers are needed regularly throughout the semester in addition to special events. Harvesting will be done on some Saturday mornings depending on the farm schedule. Food deliveries to agencies are usually made by early afternoon before the agencies close. If you have your own vehicle that is a plus!

- Swim coach assistants for 8 and under, 9-12, 13-18 years old.

- Volunteers are needed to enhance reading skills of young children.

Volunteers are needed most to serve as mentors for the young members.

Length of Time
After school program starts around the 2nd week in September. It's important to note that the Club would like volunteers that come in for short amounts of time for longer periods.
For example, it would be ideal if volunteers come two days per week for one hour each day for 20 weeks rather than four hours per day for two weeks. Stronger bonds can be formed with the youth this way.
3:30-5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday is when the most number of kids are in the Club.

EVE, Incorporated
EVE, Incorporated provides 24 hour service for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The organization also provides advocacy services, transitional housing, counseling, children's programming, a supervised visitation and exchange center, peer support groups, educational programs, sexual assault intervention, and a 24 hour hotline.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are needed in the following areas, with an urgent need for crisis back-up volunteers.
Training for all volunteers is provided at no cost.
- Crisis back-up volunteers to assist in screening of individuals before admission into Eve
- Volunteers to answer hotline calls while crisis-back up workers are screening individuals
- Hotline workers to answer incoming calls
- Donation collection volunteers
- Internship possibilities
- Office workers
- Cleaning
- Yard work (hedge trimming, leaf blowing, lawn edging)
Length of Time
Time commitment varies. Crisis back-up volunteers will be on call one week at a time.

EVE is collecting unwanted cell phones for Marietta College's Make a Difference Day to give to domestic violence and sexual assault victims. The drop off point for the cell phones is at the Washington County Sheriff's office located at 309 4th Street, Marietta, OH 45750. No cell phone chargers are wanted.

Our Zonta chapter assists other organizations that have the same goals as we do in the community.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers are needed in variety of capacities:
