MC ACM Minutes --
November 14, 1999
Attendance: Don Barber, David Bettinger, Amber Chappars,
Ryan Coleman, Rudy Denius, Ryan Longfellow, Todd Stratman
Coleman passed out information about national membership to the ACM
- Each officer must be a member of ACM
- Other memberships are optional
- Coleman will accept cash, check, or money order if anyone wants
to send in money as a group
- By unanimous vote, the officers will pay for their own memberships
The financial committee met to discuss ways to make money for the chapter
- One suggestion is to sell blank disks and CD's with a 50¢ to $1
markup
- The chapter could also work at a rest stop, selling donuts, coffee,
and other items; possibly around spring break or graduation
- Russell Hall residents may need help installing network cards
next semester
- We could also request donations from local businesses
The professional development committee looked into getting A+ certification
because it would involve the least amount of money
- The test would would certify someone in competent, entry-level
tech support
- A manual would be needed for learning more trivial details,
and would probably take about six months to study
- Testing can be done as close as Vienna
- Barber will look into getting a CD copy of the study book and
putting it on the network
- More information is available at gocertify.com
Mike and Joe Deem would be interested in talking with ACM
The server in Russell needs work on the wiring, and the server should
be moved in by next week
Current problems with the computer science/information systems curriculums
were disussed
- The topic of CS 392 did not seem appropriate or interesting to
some students
- Some people expressed interest in seeing more non-programming
classes
The next meeting will be held on Sunday, December 5, 1999. Barber
will be showing some basics about PHP scripting at the end of the
meeting.
