Making art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The pleasure of drawing on walls as a child is still with me. As an undergraduate I focused on drawing and stone lithography with a focus on the human figure. I have worked as a portraitist for most of my adult life.
My fascination with color and fabric led to an experimental phase of dying and airbrushing on fabric. After my first experience dying silk I became hooked on the process and consequently spent the next 25 years designing fabric and clothing and selling it to galleries and individuals across the Untied States. I participated in fine art and craft shows and was an active participate in the American Craft Movement of the latter part of the 20th century.
Painting, drawing, and printmaking are now my media of choice. I participate in fine art shows whenever possible, as well as illustrating for various publications and individuals.
As a teacher, I strive to inspire my students to experience the joy and fulfillment that making and appreciating art can bring to their lives. I encourage students to look at the arts of many cultures and time periods as well as being active participants themselves. I believe that a strong foundation of drawing skills will strengthen all other art forms, which students choose to experience.
