The Red Admiral

Color:
The body and the wings of the Red Admiral are black-brown in color. On all four wings there are distinctive red bands. On the two upper wings, near the tips of each, there are white spots. On the lower wings the red bands of coloration have small blue markings located laterally (Klots, 1979, 107).

Size:
The Red Admiral is 1.75-2.2 inches in width (Klots, 1979, 107), and 2.0-2.2 inches in height.

Food:
The caterpillar feeds plants win the Nettles family (Klots, 1979, 107).

Geographic Range:
The Red Admiral is found from central to southern Canada, south through Florida and Texas (Klots, 1979, 107).
