The Variegated Fritillary

Color:
The Body of E. claudia is brown. All four wings are a light orange color with a pale yellow-orange band down the center of each wing. Additionally, all four wings have bands of dark brown markings located laterally (Klots, 1979, 85).

Size:
The Variegated Fritillary is 2.25-2.5 inches in width (Klots, 1979, 85), and 2,5-2.75 inches in height.

Food:
The caterpillar feeds on various species of violets, May Apple, Purslane, and Moonseed (Klots, 1979, 85).

Geographic Range:
The range of the Variegated Fritillary is primarily in the southeastern United States, i.e., Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, and Florida (Klots, 1979, 85).
