Monteverde,  Costa Rica

Monteverde, the green mountain, is the name given to a group of Quakers from the US who emigrated to Costa Rica in the early 1950's.  To protect their watershed, they designated the top of their mountain as a preserve, and later donated that property to the people of Costa Rica.  Thus was protected a unique ecosystem, the cloud forest.
