Gill

Gills in aquatic organisms are used to obtain oxygen from the water.  The oxygen is then absorbed into the bloodstream from the blood traveling through the gills.  The gills are also used for storage.  Females store unfertilized eggs in a specialized region of the gills known as the marsupia (Watters, 1995).  This marsupial region is either non-functioning or non efficient in terms of respiration during the breeding season.
