The first album I remember purchasing was John Denver's Greatest Hits sometime in the mid 70s. From there I went on to other "soft 70s" music such as Neil Diamond and Gordon Lightfoot. However, I really didn't get into music until I went off to college, at which time I was mostly into the British Invasion bands from the late 60s and early 70s (Beatles, Stones, The Who (1979, 1982, 1989), Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, and Supertramp (1979, 1983), among others). The late 70s also saw the birth of punk and I was happy to be caught up in the spirit of the times. Among my favorites from the era were the Clash, the Jam, and the Sex Pistols. As punk evolved into New Wave and then into Alternative, I listened to REM, Echo and the Bunnymen, U2, New Order (1989), the Replacements (1987), and Husker Du (1986, 1987). Nowadays, I still sample "new music," but mostly I like my "old stuff."
My favorite album of all time is Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Running a close second is Supertramp's "Crime of the Century."
