The mission of the Marietta College Education Department is to prepare "Educator Leaders for 21st Century Schools" by providing candidates with the experiences necessary to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to facilitate student learning. This mission coincides with the College goal to graduate students at the undergraduate and graduate levels who are adept at critical analysis, problem solving, and the leadership skills required to translate what is learned into effective actions.
The Department of Education and all teacher licensure programs are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education(NCATE) and approved by the Ohio Department of Education. The department offers undergraduate teacher education programs in early childhood (grades P - 3), middle childhood (grades 4 - 9), intervention specialist mild/moderate (grades K - 12), and adolescent/young adult education (grades 7 - 12) in the areas of language arts, social studies, integrated mathematics, and life science. In addition an endorsement program is available in reading and early childhood generalist (grades 4 - 5). An intervention specialist mild/moderate graduate licensure program is also available.

Program Stages
The teacher education program at Marietta College consists of four stages: 1. Intent to Pursue, 2. Admission to Professional Education, 3. Admission to the Student Teaching Semester, and 4. Recommendation for an Ohio Provisional Teaching License.
Each stage has specific requirement and criteria to be met.
