Human Resource Management at Marietta College

Marietta's major in human resource management is distinguished by its focus on the motivational and ethical issues that affect the "people side" of the management equation. Job opportunities look promising in this field, as an increasing number of complex issues face the human resource manager: especially as organizations and corporations work diligently to consolidate and run leaner.

The human resource management major is designed to give students a perspective on the key areas within the field: recruitment, selection, training, and development of personnel; administration of compensation and benefits; labor relations; occupational health and safety programs; collective bargaining; career planning; and employee counseling. The faculty bring a wide variety of backgrounds and experience to the major. The lead instructor in the human resource management major, for example, has spent three sabbaticals with the human resources operations of General Electric, DuPont, and Wiremold.

The program focuses on developing the critical skills in analysis students will need when managing people. The oral and written communication requirements in the major give students the foundation needed to succeed and excel in the field.

Our active student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management enables you to attend professional meetings and organizes additional programs through which you can interact with local human resource managers.
