About the Author
			Scott O'Dell was born May 23, 1898 in Los Angeles, Califronia. O'Dell was born with the name Odell Gabriel Scott, until he adopted his new name that started out as a typo. His first book, Representative Photoplays Analyzed was published in 1924. O'Dell has won various awards for his books for adolescence, amoung them are the Newbery Medal and several Newbery Honor Books. Shine Down the Moon and Island of the Blue Dolphin are the two Newbery Award winners.
